Ethics, Sustainability, and Transparency

Our purpose is to help everyone live a lifestyle that is aligned with Cottagecore values: a return to simple living in alignment with Mother Earth.  

We have seen firsthand how a single item of clothing or decorative item can spark a total shift in one's energy and philosophy.

To that end, we have painstakingly curated a beautiful collection, which we ship to you directly from our manufacturers and distributors around the world in order to keep prices accessible.  With that said, we recognize the inherent contradiction between shipping clothing and living a simple, earthbound life.

Our styles recall an era where clothes were handmade from local materials, but the simple reality of 2021 is that not everybody has access to affordable local brands, hand-me-downs, well-stocked thrift shops, or the ability and materials to sew their own clothes.

Our partners are highly professional clothing manufacturers around the world who have taken great pains to understand and perfect the Cottagecore aesthetic. Our mission is to connect them to you, easily and affordably.

Here are the steps we have taken to create a business that aligns with our values:

We insist that every partner certify that their products are made ethically, with fair wages for workers, with no child or forced labor.  We pay all our in-house employees a living wage with full health benefits, and only work with contractors who do the same.

For every order shipped - including returns and exchanges - we purchase double the carbon offsets required to offset the CO2 emission from shipping, resulting in a net reduction of global carbon emissions through our shipping.  To compensate for emissions in the manufacturing and supply chain, we purchase $1 of additional carbon offsets for every garment sold.

 We prefer natural materials and chose 100% cotton products whenever possible.  Some items necessarily contain synthetic materials, but you will never find a 100% polyester dress in our shop.

In alignment with our personal commitment to cruelty-free and plant-based living, we stock only Vegan items - no silk, no wool, no leather, no fur.

We donate regularly to animal welfare non-profits and farm sanctuaries.

 

As our business grows, we’ll pursue the following initiatives:

• When the pandemic is over, we will visit our suppliers and conduct factory inspections to ensure compliance with fair-trade principles.
• We'll also donate to non-profits in the communities of our factory workers.
• We are working with designers to develop and manufacture our own clothing which will eventually give us full oversight of the entire supply chain, and ensure that every item is produced sustainably, ethically, and affordably.
